Pegasus Shipping Agency is a 100% local family owned and operated Shipping Agency located in sunny Nelson, New Zealand. Mike Newton has over 40 years of experience in the industry and founded Pegasus Shipping Agency over 20 years ago with the vision of using his knowledge and expertise to help find the best solutions for his customers.
The words he works by are “Problems are a solution in disguise”, and this has become fundamental to the way Pegasus Shipping operates day to day. No job is too big or too small or too complex for the Pegasus team.

Mike Newton
I’ve been in the Shipping Industry for over 40 years. After starting my career as an Engineer at sea in 1974, I eventually came ashore and progressed through the various aspects of the Shipping Industry before moving into the Sales and Marketing area. I managed a Shipping Agency before finally founding Pegasus Shipping Agency in 1999. My enthusiasm for the industry is still apparent today in everything I do, and I especially enjoy the daily challenges that arise.
Karl Newton
I’m now in my sixth year with Pegasus Shipping Agency. I’ve had a keen interest in ships from a young age when my sister and I were often invited aboard to meet the Captain and Crew of visiting vessels. In addition to many years of practical experience, completing a Certificate of Commercial Logistics further expanded my Shipping Industry knowledge. I particularly enjoy understanding and managing the many facets of the business.
